In this paper, the water use midpoint indicator AWARE (Available WAter Remaining) was employed to evaluate the sustainability of the reusing of treated wastewater in an agro-industrial process by comparing the scenario of vegetable irrigation using treated wastewater with the traditional one in which groundwater is employed from artesian wells. The case study represents an emblematic case of the circular economy because the Company, located in the south of Italy, manages the agro-industrial facility and the farm in the same place. Results highlight the advantages of reducing water use from the avoided impact linked to substituting treated water with groundwater. However, some critical aspects such as electricity consumption and distance between treated water storage and crop need to be better investigated to consider the overall system sustainable.
