Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common of the malignant skin neoplasms, and surgery is the treatment of choice in many cases. In our patients with suspected BCC, the interval between clinical diagnosis and surgery ranges from 1 to 6 weeks. Whether this time frame is due to either patients’ personal reasons, or crowding of waiting lists, we often find it convenient to prescribe topical medications with commercially available antibiotic ointments to be applied twice daily until the morning of the intervention.

Abstract

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common of the malignant skin neoplasms, and surgery is the treatment of choice in many cases. In our patients with suspected BCC, the interval between clinical diagnosis and surgery ranges from 1 to 6 weeks. Whether this time frame is due to either patients’ personal reasons, or crowding of waiting lists, we often find it convenient to prescribe topical medications with commercially available antibiotic ointments to be applied twice daily until the morning of the intervention.
