The research explores the potential of digitally mediated sustainability education in promoting knowledge, skills and awareness among upper- secondary school students. The work is grounded in an analysis of the theoretical and conceptual framework of sustainability in its environmental, social, economic, and technological dimensions. The concepts are examined in regard to the main international and national regulatory and programmatic references. It is also traced the evolution of sustainability education by examining pedagogical approaches, teaching methodologies and competence frameworks. Furthermore, particular attention is devoted to digital mediation, that is interpreted both as a tool to understand the local context and as a device to enhance cognitive and metacognitive processes. The empirical study has been conducted with fourth-year students from two upper-secondary schools in the Turin metropolitan area through a mixed-methods design integrating quantitative questionnaires, experiential observations and qualitative analysis of student outputs. The research is aimed at assessing the effectiveness of an educational path focused on the acquisition of knowledge and the self-perception of competencies in the scope of sustainability. The results show a significant increase in the understanding of the addressed topics, a growing awareness of the role of the spacial context and a strengthening of metacognitive skills. At the same time, the study highlights persistent difficulty in translating this awareness into concrete sustainable practices. The results imply thus the need for continuous and systemic educational interventions. The pedagogical and institutional implications of the study emphasize the role of digital technologies in fostering situated learning and a systemic approach to complexity. Therefore, it can be affirmed the urgency of a more organic integration between educational policies, school institutions and local contexts to promote an authentic and transformative culture of sustainability.

Abstract
Therefore, it can be affirmed the urgency of a more organic integration between educational policies, school institutions and local contexts to promote an authentic and transformative culture of sustainability.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
