This dissertation investigates the complex interplay between digital transformation, multifaceted innovation, and market outcomes in the global wine industry, a traditional sector facing unprecedented challenges from climate change, shifting consumer demographics, and competitive pressures. Employing a tripartite research design, it systematically addresses critical gaps in theory and practice by examining innovation dynamics from both supply-side and demand-side perspectives, culminating in an integrated strategic analysis for market entry. The first paper, "Digital Transformation for Eco-Innovation: Evidence from Agriculture 4.0 Adoption in Wine Firms," adopts a supply-side lens. Analyzing survey data from 387 Italian wine firms, it demonstrates that the adoption of Agriculture 4.0 technologies (e.g., precision viticulture, management software) serves as a strategic enabler, shifting firms from reactive End-of-Pipe solutions to proactive Cleaner Production strategies. Crucially, it provides empirical evidence for a "win-win" outcome, linking digital adoption not only to enhanced eco-innovation but also to competitive upgrading into premium market segments, thereby challenging the perceived trade-off between environmental and economic objectives. The second paper, "How Does Innovation Shape Wine Demand in China?," shifts to the demand-side. Based on a survey of 2,016 Chinese consumers, it develops and validates a multidimensional innovation framework (Technological, Process, Packaging, Conceptual). The findings reveal a clear hierarchy of influence on Purchase and Recommendation Intention, with Packaging Innovation being the strongest driver, followed by Conceptual, Technological, and Process Innovation. It identifies Perceived Value as the central psychological mechanism mediating this relationship. Furthermore, the study challenges conventional segmentation wisdom, revealing that older and female consumers are key receptive segments for innovation, highlighting a unique, digitally-enabled, demand-pull paradigm in the Chinese market. The third paper, "Navigating New Terroirs: An Integrated Analysis of Italian Wine Firms' Channel Strategies, Innovation Trajectories, and Market Entry Potential in China," performs the crucial synthesis. By directly juxtaposing the supply-side data from Paper 1 with the demand-side insights from Paper 2, it empirically diagnoses a fundamental strategic misalignment. Italian firms' reliance on linear, offline channel models and product-centric R&D clashes with China's integrated digital ecosystems and value-driven consumer preferences. Structural Equation Modeling reveals that internal organizational inertia, driven by perceived innovation barriers and the degree of embeddedness in local networks, statistically predicts resistance to change. Specifically, higher perceived barriers and lower systemic integration predict greater organizational resistance to change. To bridge this gap, the paper constructs an original integrated strategic framework, positing that successful market entry necessitates a dual transformation: Digital Acculturation for seamless integration into China's platform-centric commerce, and Innovation Alignment for resonating with local consumer values. Collectively, this research contributes to theory by bridging siloed literature streams on digital transformation, eco-innovation, consumer behavior, and international marketing, offering new frameworks such as the Digital Acculturation and Innovation Alignment model. For practitioners, it provides actionable insights for firms, consortia, and policymakers, underscoring innovation as a strategic capability essential for reconciling tradition with modernity, ensuring the sustainable development, competitive resilience, and market relevance of the global wine industry.
