From indigenous settlements, to Greek colonies, to the Roman city. The research of recent years have witnessed increased interest in roman colonization and previous conceptions of roman colonization have been fundamentally challenged. The most notable transformations in the ancient landscape were undoubtedly produced by the Roman intervention that gave birth to the new colonies, and the planning of the new towns which consequently led to the reorganisation of a vast territories and the division of the rural areas into a dense network of small properties assigned to the settlers.
