The ALICE Silicon Pixel Detector consists of two barrel layers of hybrid silicon pixel detectors. In total 9.8 x 10(6) pixel cells with 50 mu m x 425 mu m will provide precision tracking information in the high multiplicity environment expected in heavy ion collisions.
