Abstract

Ideas generated in the context of the U.S. debates on culture wars have a wide global influence. A study of the ideas developed by the U.S. Religious Right can help to understand today’s debates on conspiracy theories and the challenges they pose to liberal constitutionalism. Apocalyptic thinking seems to be at the center of a political-religious imaginary with significant legal implications. As the spread of digital technologies contributes to making these ideas increasingly viral, significant questions regarding the construction of the right to freedom of expression in its balance with other constitutionally protected rights are also raised.
