This paper deals with Ovid’s relegation ordered by Augustus in 8 A.D. The research aims to determine, as much as possible, for what crime(s) Augustus banished Ovid from Rom and forced the poet to live in Tomis, a small village on the Black Sea coast. The investigation will also analyse on what basis and by what procedure Ovid was punished and what kind of punishment (technically speaking) was inflicted on him
