This paper aims to understanding how the countervailing duties adopted by the EU on imports of new battery-powered electric vehicles, designed for the transport of persons, originating in the People’s Republic of China, should be qualified in light of the rules of the multilateral trading system administered by the WTO, what forms of protection could be afforded to those who may be harmed by them, and how they fit into a broader context, with regard to environmental protection (“green”) objectives.
