The essay aims to analyze Augustine’s Sermo 212, and specifically the section explaining the Symbolum. Firstly, I conduct a philological study of the textual variants attested in the manuscript tradition as well as of the editorial choices. Then, I analyze the structure of the Sermo, in order to highlight the choices that are inherent to the arrangement of the material. Besides, I examine the various parts of the Sermo, with the aim of illustrating the expressive choices. Finally, I go deeper into the analysis of Sermo 212 by comparing it to the other Augustinian Sermones in traditione Symboli (213, 214), in redditione Symboli (215), De Symbolo ad catechumenos and with the Sermones attributed to Quoduultdeus. The entire investigation sheds light on the distinctive features of Sermo 212: they emerge in the analysis and they are presented in a synthetic manner in the conclusions.
