The article describes the stages of development of cellular networks. Development stages of mobile communications are conventionally divided into the generations (1G, 2G… 5G, G – Generation). From 1981 new generations of cellular network standards get updated every 10 years on average, 5G standards will be expected to be introduced in 2020. In Georgia mobile communications operator LLC “Magticom” started using GSM 1800 MHz frequency in November 1999. GSM operator Geocell was founded in Georgia in September 1996. As for mobile operator Beeline, it started functioning in Georgia in March 2007. The whole world is in the process of drawing out technologies for 5G networks. International telecommunication organization has developed a map for development of the technologies and has even defined its name- IMT-2020. All in all, Georgian companies still have not started working on implementation of 5G standards. It becomes necessary to expand the transmission network, to develop high-speed technologies. In addition, it is essential consumers to have market corresponding devices.
