The Authors have determined the results achieved for sex determination with in situ hybridization (ISH) on paraffin embedded samples of skin, bone, heart and tooth. The best images were obtained on teeth in which odontoblasts showed very clearly both intranuclear spots correspondent to centromeres of X-chromosomes. Also the skin seems to be suitable for sex determination through ISH, particularly for what concern Malpighi cells, endothelial cells of vases and epithelial cells of sweat glandes. At least authors have discussed values and defects of this technique and consider possibilities for its improvement and outline the importance of results achieved on tooth for the solution of forensic identification problems.

Abstract
The Authors have determined the results achieved for sex determination with in situ hybridization (ISH) on paraffin embedded samples of skin, bone, heart and tooth. The best images were obtained on teeth in which odontoblasts showed very clearly both intranuclear spots correspondent to centromeres of X-chromosomes. Also the skin seems to be suitable for sex determination through ISH, particularly for what concern Malpighi cells, endothelial cells of vases and epithelial cells of sweat glandes. At least authors have discussed values and defects of this technique and consider possibilities for its improvement and outline the importance of results achieved on tooth for the solution of forensic identification problems.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
