This paper, concerning Servius’ commentary on Verg. Aen. 6,724-751, is a continuation of the previous paper, regarding the text of Anchise’s speech. Vergil’s compositional technique and Servius’ interpretative method have been examined using the same approach, which focuses on the structure of the Vergilian text and the Servian commentary. The structural aspects have been highlighted through images offered by the textile metaphor: the ‘warp’ consists of the various threads of the speech; the ‘weft’ is the main thread, consisting of internal references and of verbal and conceptual parallels; the weft interweaves with the warp on the ‘woven fabric’, which is the structure of the text; the ‘meshes’ are the spaces between strands. Servius moves among the meshes of the Vergilian text; in his commentary the grammarian solves the reticular structure of the poetic text and proposes an explanation with a linear development.
