An interspecific hybridation program between Prunus fruticosa Pall (2n=4x=32) and Prunus mahaleb (2n=2x=16) was undertaken by artificial cross-pollination. Out of 3000 cross-pollinated flowers of P. fruticosa, only 20 fruit were obtained, probably becouse of interspeciphic barries. The morphology of the leaves of some seedlings seemed to indicate a hybrid orinig. The counting of the chromosome number showed that some seedlings were triploids (2n=3x=24), so they were considered true interspecific hybrids.
Interspecific hybridation program aimed at obtaining dwarfing and non-suchering rootstocks for sweet cerry.

Abstract
An interspecific hybridation program between Prunus fruticosa Pall (2n=4x=32) and Prunus mahaleb (2n=2x=16) was undertaken by artificial cross-pollination. Out of 3000 cross-pollinated flowers of P. fruticosa, only 20 fruit were obtained, probably becouse of interspeciphic barries. The morphology of the leaves of some seedlings seemed to indicate a hybrid orinig. The counting of the chromosome number showed that some seedlings were triploids (2n=3x=24), so they were considered true interspecific hybrids.File in questo prodotto:
