The paper interprets the revenge as a semantic code that is an expression of the retaliative paradigm able to perform the judicial imagination yet in the modernity. We have used as ethnographic data some judicial reports of the trial that took place in Berlin in 1921 against Tehlirian, self-confessed murder of Talaat Pasha, responsible of the Armenian genocide. These show that the retaliative paradigm becomes an useful interpretive tool for understanding three elements: the reached acquittal verdict, the relationship of exchange between victim and murderer and the reduction of an intricate political issue in a family drama.

Abstract
The paper interprets the revenge as a semantic code that is an expression of the retaliative paradigm able to perform the judicial imagination yet in the modernity. We have used as ethnographic data some judicial reports of the trial that took place in Berlin in 1921 against Tehlirian, self-confessed murder of Talaat Pasha, responsible of the Armenian genocide. These show that the retaliative paradigm becomes an useful interpretive tool for understanding three elements: the reached acquittal verdict, the relationship of exchange between victim and murderer and the reduction of an intricate political issue in a family drama.File in questo prodotto:
