La caduta degli eroi: suggestioni sallustiane nel personaggio di Achille nell' "Ephemeris belli Troiani"

In the epic rewriting of the Ephemeris belli Troiani, the ruin of Achilles, prey to Polyxena’s passion and willing to betray the Achaean army for her, is attributed to his own temeritas, as we can see from the sententia of Ajax commenting on hero’s death (4, 11). The contribution recognizes in this sententia, and in the portrait of Achilles as well (2, 14), a trace of Sallust’s influence on the Latin author of the Ephemeris and his tendency to adapt thoughts and actions belonging to Sallustian characters to his mythical heroes.

Nella riscrittura della materia epica condotta nell’Ephemeris belli Troiani, la rovina di Achille, preda della passione per Polissena e disposto per soddisfarla a tradire l’esercito acheo, è attribuita alla sua stessa temeritas, come emerge dalla sententia di Aiace che commenta la morte dell’eroe (4, 11). Il contributo individua in questa sententia, così come nel ritratto di Achille (2, 14), una traccia dell’influenza di Sallustio sull’autore latino dell’Ephemeris e della sua tendenza ad adattare agli eroi mitici pensieri e azioni attribuite ai personaggi sallustiani.
