The article foregrounds relevant aspects linked to English for business and economics in a social and political context where requirements are constantly changing. This article explores possibilities to diagnose the degree of specialized competences through testing and to predict the likelihood of success either in the academic or working circumstances of the examinees. Predictive validity is discussed in the article against this background. A wide set of references is provided.
