How do we go about teaching Medical English? Within a framework based on textuality, interdisciplinarity and a need to reflect on sociomedical interaction in all its forms it is possible for genre, text grammar and the GMER principles to be plied together in such a way as to represent an alternative to, and a much needed escape from, those approaches to medical education that deploy traditional instruments and methods in which acquisition of medical discourse’s lexicogrammatical forms, specialized lexis in particular, is the sole objective.
