A study on pollen germination of pollen of 12 cvs. having different blooming times (early to late) is reported. Pollen was kept at low temperatures (5°, 10° and 15°C) with three lenght of incubation stage (2, 6 and 24 hr). The temperature of 5°C induced satisfactory pollen germination in all cvs, but only after 24 hr. However, the pollen of eight cvs. showed a good geginning of activity at 5°C with 6 hrs of incubation. Early-blooming cvs. kept pollen germination quikly even at 15°C. Keeping pollen at 15°C for 24 hrs induced 82-100% pollen germination in all cvs. This temperature seems optimal for almond pollen.

Interrelationships of almond pollen germination at low temperatures, blooming time and biological behaviour of cultivars.
