Since 2021, an archaeological team has been conducting research on the Castiglione hill, located in the Murge region of Southeastern Bari, Italy. This site, fortified since the Bronze Age and again during the Middle Ages, preserves significant historical and structural elements. The project, named CAP70014, focuses on non-invasive diagnostic methods, including LIDAR scans and extensive surface surveys, to investigate the settlement’s spatial organization and evolution over time. The goal is to answer long-standing questions about Castiglione’s development, the reasons behind its medieval settlement’s founding, its eventual abandonment, and the landscape transformations that followed. This ongoing research aims to provide new insights into Castiglione’s historical trajectory as a hub of cultural and environmental interactions.
