The archaeological investigations conducted by the Universities of Perugia, Macerata and Foggia for more than a decade in the site of Campo della Fiera, South-West of Orvieto, have allowed us to verify a continuous attendance from the sixth century B.C. to the fourteenth century A.D. The most ancient architectural complex, identified with the federal sanctuary of the Etruscans, the Fanum Voltumnae, was destroyed in 264 BC along with Orvieto and revitalized in the Roman period. During Late Antiquity the residential complex is transformed, with partial restoration activities and renovations. In medieval sources, Campo della Fiera is called “campus fori” or “campus nundinarum”, a market vocation continues at least until the early twentieth century.

Abstract
In medieval sources, Campo della Fiera is called “campus fori” or “campus nundinarum”, a market vocation continues at least until the early twentieth century.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
