The main objective of this contribution is to reconstruct Ceredi’s work by analyzing the hydraulic machines he redesigned, starting from rediscovered ancient and early Renaissance models that, in some cases, are known and in others, completely unknown. With his 1567 work, Tre discorsi sopra il modo d’alzar acque da’ luoghi bassi as a point of departure, this research has brought to light some biographical information on the author, completely unknown in the scientific literature, as well as the Philosophia Naturalis model that influenced his work as a proto-engineer.
