Eco-labels have been created in order to meet consumers' requirements to distinguish between an eco-product and a similar one, which doesn't have this peculiarity. For this reason eco-labels allow consumers to be fully aware of what they are purchasing. Although eight years have passed since the introduction of the Ecolabel into European Union, it hasn't spread as expected because of the reason analysed in this paper. The new Regulation, issued in September 2000, tries to overcome the present limits, even though many problems haven't been solved yet.

Abstract: | Eco-labels have been created in order to meet consumers' requirements to distinguish between an eco-product and a similar one, which doesn't have this peculiarity. |
