The article identifies the features of the phonetic system of English, in particular in those areas of speaking and pronunciation where, from the standpoint of Italian learners of English, English and Italian diverge significantly. The article proposes some corrective strategies designed to improve a rather neglected classroom activity and introduces students to the relationships between the phonetic level of English and its morphosyntactic structure.
