This short volume focuses on ESP (English for Special Purposes) and related subcategories such as EBE (English for Business and Economics), EBA (English for Business and Administration) IBP (English for Business Purposes), MA (Management English) and EAP (English for Academic Purposes). At a time when few studies on ESP and EAP existed, the study pioneered research into specific teaching goals and their assessment through testing. The study explores in particular diagnostic testing in relation to such factors as prospective learning goals, needs assessment, learners’ presupposed knowledge, language weaknesses and study skills practice. The methodology explored in this volume was the basis for subsequent work such as the analysis of the small scale test (Specialised Languages: a small scale test in Business English, Loiacono 1990).

Abstract
This short volume focuses on ESP (English for Special Purposes) and related subcategories such as EBE (English for Business and Economics), EBA (English for Business and Administration) IBP (English for Business Purposes), MA (Management English) and EAP (English for Academic Purposes). At a time when few studies on ESP and EAP existed, the study pioneered research into specific teaching goals and their assessment through testing. The study explores in particular diagnostic testing in relation to such factors as prospective learning goals, needs assessment, learners’ presupposed knowledge, language weaknesses and study skills practice. The methodology explored in this volume was the basis for subsequent work such as the analysis of the small scale test (Specialised Languages: a small scale test in Business English, Loiacono 1990).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
