The intersection between classical theories and new categories is fundamental for understanding the interesting changes that are characterizing current democracies. This confluence, evidently, is presented as even more significant in consideration of the Latin American context and its ‘instable equilibrium’ between assimilation of models and practical experimentation. In this sense, it encases the undeniable validity of Octavio Paz, a controversial intellectual, whose reflections, impregnated with poetry and political criticism, provide us with an extraordinary vision about the notions of democracy and liberty, and about their implementations through the revolutionary dreams, the socio-political-institutional transformations, the disillusionment to ambiguous deviations.

Abstract
The intersection between classical theories and new categories is fundamental for understanding the interesting changes that are characterizing current democracies. This confluence, evidently, is presented as even more significant in consideration of the Latin American context and its ‘instable equilibrium’ between assimilation of models and practical experimentation. In this sense, it encases the undeniable validity of Octavio Paz, a controversial intellectual, whose reflections, impregnated with poetry and political criticism, provide us with an extraordinary vision about the notions of democracy and liberty, and about their implementations through the revolutionary dreams, the socio-political-institutional transformations, the disillusionment to ambiguous deviations.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
