The complex process of economic globalisation has brought about a rapid evolution of the organisational structure and the logistics of freight forwarding, including the reliance on multi-modal transportation, and the use of container shipments, to cite just two examples. The use of such standard-metal containers, in which all manner of goods is flung together without any special palletisation or other precautions required, has prompted an industry-wide paradigm shift. The article will analyze in a comparative perspective the problem of the liability of the freight forwarder.
