Taken together, the thematic areas and research included in this latest book broaden the horizons of our knowledge of the history of women’s education in Southern Europe. We are continuing to pull back the veils that hide the unknown past. The main aim of these volumes is to provide concrete evidence of a historiographical process in which women have played a leading role. In recent years, we have clearly been moving from the study of the education that has been offered to women, as mere passive recipients of measures designed for them, to research into how women themselves have actively contributed to the field of Education. Naturally, what we uncover originates from different ideological and political standpoints and, of course, very different conceptualizations of women... or does it?
