This paper discusses sensory expressions as descriptive translators of sensory concepts that can be found in Italian architectural texts. The data are taken from a larger collection of different textual genres about the three Campania Charterhouses, as part of the Italian national project CHROME. From this corpus, we automatically selected the sentences showing an intersection with at least one element of our sensory lexicon, such as metaphors, as recognized in Lakoff and Johnson’s standard theory of metaphor (1980), in Fauconnier and Turner’s (1994) theory of conceptual blending, and annotated them by using the FrameNet database, in order to identify the presence of particular tendencies associated with their use.
