Inflammation is the first event that follows a muscle lesion and is also the first step of the muscle regeneration process; thus, it can be argued that inflammatory cells are involved in the induction of muscle fibres regeneration, possibly through the action of soluble mediators that regulate the myogenic regulatory factors expressed by muscle cells during development and regeneration. This paper reports evidences from literature about the involvement of cyclooxygenase products (prostaglaninds) in the muscle regeneration process and shows that cyclooxygenase inhibitory drugs can affect the normal expression of myogenic regulatory factors in muscle fibres during regeneration. The implications of these phenomena in therapeutic strategies are discussed. © 2010 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved.
