This volume reconstructs the changing attitudes towards dancing in texts over the centuries, in particular the Renaissance’s re-evaluation of conceptions of dancing found in the Classical Age. It highlights the semiotic and rhetorical equivalences between verbal and non verbal communication examining the relationship, in particular, between gestures and utterances. The article views discourse and dancing as contributing to social interactions through the expression of an individual’s action.
