Quality energy can only be produced through technologies and from sources having the lowest possible environmental impact. It is in this category that renewable energy sources (RESs) are generally included. However, there are still critical aspects which hinder the full development of RESs (high costs of the investment, difficulty in correctly appraising externalities). The present paper examines and compares the approaches and tools of incentives to support electricity from RESs in EU Member States, to identify the advantages which could derive from the harmonisation of the different available schemes

Abstract

Quality energy can only be produced through technologies and from sources having the lowest possible environmental impact. It is in this category that renewable energy sources (RESs) are generally included. However, there are still critical aspects which hinder the full development of RESs (high costs of the investment, difficulty in correctly appraising externalities). The present paper examines and compares the approaches and tools of incentives to support electricity from RESs in EU Member States, to identify the advantages which could derive from the harmonisation of the different available schemes
