The two most recent publications on ps.cyprianic De aleatoribus (Nucci, critical edition, 2006; Luiselli, critical reflections about anonymous author’s language and text, 2007) are based on a remarkable part of the manuscript tradition (mss. MQTU), which gives us a text characterized by a Vulgar Latin full of mistakes. This essay debates and disproves two scholars’ opinions and issues, and analyses in particular how the same mss. MQTU copyists transcribed other works belonging to the Corpus Cyprianeum. Here it can be found the same kind of mistakes that Nucci and Luiselli attribute to the anonymous author’s linguistic incom‑ petence. The results of this study demand to reconsider the real linguistic peculiarities not only of aleat., but also of other works from Corpus Cyprianeum, whose main and oldest mss. are MQTU.

Abstract

The results of this study demand to reconsider the real linguistic peculiarities not only of aleat., but also of other works from Corpus Cyprianeum, whose main and oldest mss. are MQTU.
