The History of Women has the aim of bringing to light the lost traces of mysterious figures that first appear to our eyes as mere names without solid form. From the thick fog of the past, fragments of an elusive whole emerge. The adventure seems arduous but decidedly intriguing. We must endeavour to reconstruct our genealogy; the women of today are the product of many other women who fought, cried and rejoiced so that we would have the opportunity to stand alongside them, hearing their heartbreaking accounts, dramatic experiences and unspeakable pain. Discovery is no longer the first step in research, but a prelude to reporting, translating, and raising awareness — the duty we should feel towards those who preceded us, those who may live again in the pages of books, conference reports, and papers in the halls of universities throughout the world. Abstract

Let us, the offspring of every “great mother” of the past, rejoice and “call her blessed” (Prov. 31:28)!
