The contributions contained in this second volume of the project Women’s Education in Southern Europe describe the contradictions and paradoxes that characterize the process of incorporating women into the education system in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, France, Italy and Spain, underlining the similarities and differences existing between cases and traditions. A variety of dimensions and areas is analyzed: from the studies and professional practices of female primary teachers and the presence of girls in secondary education, a field traditionally reserved for boys, to informal educational institutions. A particular focus is placed on those women who, as very determined pioneers, fought to guarantee girls’ right to education.
