Abstract

Hydrogen is considered to have an important role, as an energy carrier for the future, to face problems of energy supply and climate change connected to CO2 anthropogenic emissions. However the costs related to its production and use do not allow its diffusion. These problems will be examined, with particular reference to fermentative process, to assuming any possible solution, also on the basis of scientific recent studies, all aimed at increasing its production and yields. Some of the techniques applied have permitted, indeed, their large increase, to the point where production rates with wastes under realistic conditions are approaching practical levels.
